In the '70's when Asics was Tiger, the brand had a solid training shoe following, but runners flocked to the brand for their performance models. The no-nonsense Jayhawk, named after the reigning track power of the day, the Kansas Jayhawks, was the shoe of choice for many serious runners in the 1970s. Released in 1974 as a running shoe, the Onitsuka Tiger Jayhawk Ex by Asics, along with the Tiger Ohbori and the Tiger Spartan B, was on the feet of the best runners from that era. It looks remarkably similar to today's racing shoes, although with considerably less cushioning. 

This vintage looking lightweight running shoe features a beige leather upper with perforations on the sides in the shape of the trademark Asics Onitsuka Tiger stripes for breathability. Also featured is the Tiger logo in orange on the heel whilst the Onitsuka Tiger logo is featured in white on the orange synthetic tongue. The die-cut EVA midsole is thin, yet responsive.
